It was very different than most evangelical kids. My mom was a teacher, my dad was a chemist and loved physics and sci-fi. He didn’t go to church at all, and my mom only took us on Sunday mornings. In the South most people go to church, that’s just a thing. My childhood wasn’t perfect, and there was still too much church IMO, but my parents never tried to force me into any of this cult shit beyond making me attend church once or twice a week.
