Because boomers love child abuse. The only thing better than temporary abuse is giving them a permanent eating disorder and diabeetus with it. Where is this still happening? This hasn’t been a thing since Gen X became parents. This was a Boomer way of doing things. As a parent now, if my kids say they’re full, they can leave the table. If they ask for food 5 mins later, supper is still available lol. They’re not allowed to replace supper with candy. But they don’t need to eat more than their bodies need. How would OP? Their claim is equally unfounded. Are they even a parent? They probably haven’t even looked around at a restaurant to see all the kids NOT finishing their meals. What I have seen is a kid who is overly picky not eating what is served and then 20 minutes later cries about being hungry and wanting some sort of junk food like ice cream or other desert. The parents know the kid is hungry and see through his BS of not being hungry. Nowadays they’re really pushing babies to feed themselves, baby led weaning. We let them say no and don’t pressure them to eat. My son is a great eater, but sometimes he says he’s “all done” through signing, but I know he isn’t, I’ll try to persuade him to have more, but doesn’t mean he’ll have much more.

The forcing food creates a bad relationship with it, and it can cause obesity as they get older. By not forcing children, you allow them to experiment and they actually have a good relationship with food and are more likely to eat a lot of variety of foods So you don’t believe in forcing children to eat, while forcing your child to eat “a little bit more” when he says that he’s finished? That doesn’t make sense. My dad was that way, he was a terrible cook, the food always made me gag and I’d be beat for gagging or throwing up, then I’d be placed back at the table. He’d yell and scream, forcefully move my jaw which has caused issues in my development in the jaw. He’d set up a camera on a tripod when he needed to go out if I still hasn’t finish eating and I’d have to sleep there at the table until the food was gone.
