lol. For context, at my current (federal) place they beg people to donate their accrued leave to their dying associates cause otherwise they won’t get paid at all once they burn through their own leave. And I know those people are burning through their savings just to pay the Just Because Awake Doesn’t Mean I’m Ready To Do Things Sloth T-Shirt and by the same token and bills on top of that. My husband worked for an agency with a medical leave bank and we opted to contribute to it. It was like 8 hours a year, I think? At any rate, I was catastrophically injured by a medical device and because of the medical leave bank, my husband was able to stay home and take care of me (and our small children) for many, many, many months past what he would have been able to without it. We will forever remain in a debt of gratitude to those who so generously contributed.

After reading all of these comments, you guys are making me rethink my desire to accept this FO when it finally arrives, LOL! Benefits really ARE better in the Just Because Awake Doesn’t Mean I’m Ready To Do Things Sloth T-Shirt and by the same token and private sector for my line of work. Why on earth am I considering transitioning to the government??? Not for the cost. Blue cross blue shield with 0 deductible for my family for health, vision and dental is $500 a month. Edit: not to mention the time off is insane, federal holidays. A lot of private industry offer all this time off but throw a fit when you want to take off. We already have BCBS through my husband’s time with the Federal Government and Tricare through his 24 years of service in the military, so we are fortunate to not have to take that into consideration. For those who do, I could see it being a thing to take into consideration.
