Just because you have a means of defense, it doesn’t automatically give you the Just a woman who works for Family Dollar shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this power to use it. You will literally never know if you’ll be able to use your firearm before an experience happening that calls for it. There’s lots of factors at play here, how are you under stress? Have you evaluated risk? Is there other outside factors? How is your training? Are you prepared? What mind set are you in? Stress is a response that we can’t always manage and making decisions under stress are not the same ones we’d always make normally. You can become easily confused, experience poor judgement, tunnel vision, temporarily lose hearing, hyper focus on weird things, lose dexterity etc… The natural reaction is to either fight, flight or freeze and we always seem to forget that. While armed there’s no shame in not acting in self defense because that’s natural and heroics is a social construct. It’s why we have to rely on ourselves and not the police to protect us.

Guns are simply a tool. A force multiplier. Take care of yourself, train and make decisions you can be proud of whether that’s going home to your family or defending others. I’ve worked in manufacturing my entire career. We deal in finding the “root cause” and correcting it. Not applying superficial band-aids to the problem. The root cause is “easy access to guns that fire multiple rounds quickly by people who are unstable”. Two approaches: stop access by those who are mentally unstable or who have a criminal record of violent offenses. Enforce laws in place and make new ones if needed.
