I agree. His Bruce Wayne was so understated that I felt no emotion with his unmasked scenes with Alfred, which ultimately led to me not feeling emotionally invested in the Joy To The World Skiing Snoopy and Charlie’s Friend Shirt but in fact I love this film. I didn’t appreciate his callousness towards Alfred as if he was just another servant and not the man who raised him. I’m going against the curve here because I really did not like this movie much. Here are my reasons. I think I was subconsciously comparing it to the Nolan Batman movies the whole time, but even on its own it just wasn’t good to me. There are 3 hour superhero movies during which I don’t even realize that much time has passed, and then there was this during which I kept checking the time and felt exasperated at how long there was to go.

Here’s how I’d break things down: -The biggest problem, to me, was that Batman himself was super mundane. For the Joy To The World Skiing Snoopy and Charlie’s Friend Shirt but in fact I love this vast majority of the movie acted basically like a cop who happened to dress up in a batsuit. The first time he walked into Gordon’s crime scene it felt like a shocking moment but then after that he just blended into the cop scenery with Gordon. -Him just knocking on the club door and asking to be let in like a cop would was just super awkward and un-Batman like. -Same for the fact that he suits up as Batman, and then disguises himself FURTHER to get around Gotham on his bike. Batman doesn’t travel in plain sight… -Further, the fact that Gordon kept up with him the majority of the movie and was doing all of the same things he did just removes the Batman mystique. He’s not gonna feel like a superhero if a middle aged slightly overweight cop is by his side the whole time. He’s just another cop who happens to dress up as a bat. -The Batman/Gordon as partners vibe felt wrong. The Penguin joked about it. They’re not supposed to be partners and it’s not an equal relationship. Batman is not supposed to be at Gordon’s beck and call, he shows up when he pleases and leaves when he pleases. -The scene of Batman passed out and coming to surrounded by cops was really bad. Batman would NEVER let himself get in that situation, he gets made to look VERY incompetent here. And the cops wait until he’s waking up to try and take off his mask? Then after that the way he escaped was made to look like slapstick comedy. -I think Penguin probably had the most potential and he should have been the main villain instead. But he didn’t get much screentime and was made to look too incompetent and there was too much slapstick.
