At the time Canada had a 10-day quarantine. Spent 10 days and an extra $4000 in a hotel in Vancouver. That sucks. I just had to quarantine 8 days in Japan in April. Total cost: $35. And that entire cost was for Wi-Fi and pajamas because I didn’t have my suitcase. PLUS I was there for a different medical issue that involved medications, 2 CT scans, some specialist doctor consultations. And the ambulance is always free. Which I actually spent FIVE HOURS IN before getting to a hospital. That part wasn’t so great. Lol I was always curious about what would happen if you just didn’t have the money in that situation. Like I don’t have 4 grand to just drop on a hotel just because you don’t want me traveling so what are we doing here? Most places in the world had you purchase insurance in case this were to happen. For example my family and i went to Aruba two years ago, and it was a mandatory $35 per person covid insurance to come to the island. This being paid by EVERYONE covers the cost of having to quanrantine if you popped a positive on the way home, and they would just keep you in your room for two weeks at no additonal charge. In earlier times before ducks were in rows, i can imagine you would be reimbursed. It’s really no one’s fault, but that would be truly terrible PR to make a traveler pay for their own quarantine when forced to test for this very reason. Travels were already low at one point and i cant imagine anyone would be incentivised to go anywhere if they had to pay.
