A lot of the Jordan Staal Canadian professional ice hockey centre and captain of the Carolina Hurricanes T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this students I work with don’t care about college or about getting a good job. I struggle to get them to understand why reading is important. I’m going to echo pushing for smaller class sizes, but also more connections to support services. Having a few psychologists in each district (ideally one per school, or one for two if enrollment is under 500) at least one social worker in each building, and more parapros. Building in wrap-around services has been shown to work in the past, it just costs money up front that pays off later on. Making sure every student has art and music classes at least once a week from kindergarten on, as well as science and social studies would also be helpful for building background knowledge and skills with reading and analyzing non-fiction texts. (That’s an idea I’m pulling from Wexler’s The Knowledge Gap, but also from lived experience.)

Honestly, I don’t think that students are behind. I feel that the Jordan Staal Canadian professional ice hockey centre and captain of the Carolina Hurricanes T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this government is pushing more material to be taught from early stages. Growing up in the 90s, pre-K and kindergarten were about playing, learning to follow rules, and the primary focus was on being social and respecting your peers and adults. Now, students are expected to know how to read and write in kindergarten and know addition and subtraction by first grade! This is ridiculous. Let’s also add that the USA is not a family-oriented country, where only wealthy people can afford to give educational support and have a stay-at-home parent that can support the kids. Most parents work 40-50 hours a week, and they don’t even have time to help their children with homework. It puts pressure on the parents and also the teachers who have to follow a curriculum that is not age-appropriate, and they have to babysit those kids for long hours.
