Alternatively, accept the Jiu Jitsu Game of Chokes Shirt But I will love this position and then aggressively pursue an alternate position at that level like your life depends on it. Then, accept the new position. Don’t quit. Just accept the new job and kick ass and stop showing up at the old job until they fire you. Then consider filing a claim for wrongful termination. Say give me the title then, we’ll talk about pay in 6 months. Grab experience & title, then start looking. You owe them nothing, they clearly don’t respect you. It’s not a promotion and they have no intention of ever giving you a raise. They just want someone to do more work for free. With that being said, at the very minimum, you need a contract detailing exactly what additional responsibilities you will have, what the measure of progress and goals will be and a specific date when your wages will increase (they should be retroactively increased from the date you began the added responsibilities). It should also be in the contract that if they fail to increase your wages by the specified date, then you will no longer be responsible for the additional tasks that were added to your role. Our company regularly does this. Typically you work at your new position for about a year and then the salary is adjusted automatically. My recommendation, define development targets with your managers and make the achieveable, measurable and clear to bith parties.

I had something similar happen to me when I was at a lower level in my company. One of my supervisor’s responsibilities was to train people. She took a new position and I was told I would get her old position when it was time for annual reviews. That came and went with no promotion. I asked and was told they felt I wasn’t ready to train people. Shortly after, they asked me to travel out of state to train a group. I said, “I thought you said I wasn’t ready to train,” and I declined to go. They won’t pay you if they don’t have to. They’re asking you to step up into a new role with new, additional responsibilities. If they think you’re the Jiu Jitsu Game of Chokes Shirt But I will love this right person for the job, they should back that with an increase in pay. Get paid!
