Ive been deaf 85% in left ear and 100% in my right ear for 6 years and 2 days now. I can clearly remember what things sound like and the Jesus in my heart Kentucky in my veins 2024 shirt but in fact I love this closest representation to deafness is having something covering your ears. Even if you are really deaf, you will still “hear” some or most things, but understanding what those sounds are or where they come from is impossible. Some people just straight up cant hear anything. Not necessarily deaf but deaf adjacent: there are people who can hear but have problems with speech processing. They hear the noise but it’s difficult to turn it into words. Similarly there are people where speech is just “muddy” for better or worse and they can’t easily make out the words. It’s not a problem with the hardware but with the brain. One of my friends has like 8% hearing in one ear and about 18% in the other. Uses two hearing aids, loves to listen to music and fills in the gaps with super good lip reading. Without hearing aids he can hear super high pitched stuff like a fire alarm, his dog, high-pitched screaming etc.

What I want to know is what does silence sound like to a deaf person? Do they “hear” the Jesus in my heart Kentucky in my veins 2024 shirt but in fact I love this same silence we do? Have we ever actually heard true silence? Cause there’s always something going on around hearing folk. 92 more repliesI just recently lost hearing in my right ear due to being shot in the head. My cochlea on that side is fractured, but everything else miraculously remained intact. I hear no sounds at all except heavy bass, and that is pretty distorted. Deep sounds have to be either very loud or very close to my head for me to hear them with that ear. I do have tinnitus on that side as well, but it feels like it’s coming from a dish shape pointed at the inside of my head. It gets louder after I’ve been in loud places, and often beeps tones I heard earlier in the day.
