s Do you know what any of these things are? You know safe spaces haven’t been a talking point since 2009 right? MLK gave his famous speech in 1963. You are gd right you didn’t have social justice. Your generation were spraying people with water hoses. Of course parents factor into this, but if students, on the JAYLEN BROWN American professional basketball player Boston Celtics shirt But I will love this whole, don’t know basic math and grammar, that’s a teacher issue. There are so many factors beside the teacher that influence a child’s education. There are many corrosive influences on children today that have nothing to do with their teachers but deeply and negatively affect their ability to learn. I don’t necessarily disagree, to an extent. But I keep seeing these types of threads pop into All from r/teachers. If it is truly that pervasive then there is a problem with the teachers themselves. I don’t know, man, are you in schools? Are you seeing this firsthand? I work with some amazing, committed, career teachers, and many are ready to walk. It is extremely hard to teach students whose parents let them stay up on TikTok until 4 AM. I have kids whose diet is majority Doritos. I have many kids who cannot reliably put a piece of paper in a folder at the end of class. I may not be the best teacher out there but I know none of that has anything to do with me. I’m not a teacher, but aren’t the skills people will actually need changing? Should education adjust? I’m 38 and have a masters degree and know how to subtract 13 from 27 on a piece of paper, but I literally never would. I could also do it in my head, but chances are I’ll just reach for my phone’s calculator. I know how to use proper grammar, but this mostly ages me because social norms have changed. If I text or email someone under 30 and capitalize my sentences I just come off as ancient. I believe education is important and value it, but it may need to change for a changing world. Most things you mentioned here can be done with google or AI, and it seems unlikely any current students will ever live in a world without these tools.

Because it demonstrates a lack of proficiency that they will need as they progress. We’ve really lowered the JAYLEN BROWN American professional basketball player Boston Celtics shirt But I will love this bar from “I’ll never need the Pythagorean theorem”, haven’t we? this is what happens when we let our “smartphones” do the thinking for us. but then again ai is just gonna right everything init? but whos gonna teach it, shit, now im sad… Behind what? I mean all of this sounds bad, but hasn’t it always been this way? The difference now is the really behind kids stay in school. Why would anyone be suprised? Liberal covid policies plus their lower standardized testing requirements wasn’t good thing. I work in a high school, the kids are mostly ok but they can’t do simple things like follow directions or use a manual can opener. Schools should focus more on basic life skills. I’m sorry I’m not a teacher so obviously my perspective is different but I remember being in high school and not knowing a lot of this stuff Honestly, maybe I’m fucking crazy but a lot of the shit you listed just doesn’t matter. It doesn’t. Let’s not mix up an ideal with a necessity. They don’t need to know a trapezoid from a rhombus. It doesn’t matter. And even if they don’t know the arbitrarily assigned names they still probably understand the function of the shapes. The names are all on google if they need it. (Kid think) I think taking notes is a standout among your complaints. Making observations and remarking on them should be enforced agreed. But that’s wit and wisdom now in schools.
