I Will Always Love You is my favorite example, I had no idea it was a Dolly Parton song until relatively recently The Dolly version is incredible too though. I don’t blame people for not knowing but it’s not like it’s inferior to the Jamie Oleksiak Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the Seattle Kraken T-Shirt also I will do this Whitney version. Long story short, Reznor listened to it and said “That song isn’t mine anymore.” He considered Cash’s cover so powerful that it effectively became the “official” version. That’s funny because that’s almost exactly Otis Reading’s reaction to hearing Aretha Franklin cover Respect. “It’s her song now” Honestly, Hendrix’ version is pretty much an entirely different song. Also, my favorite Hendrix solo by far. It’s just so… Elegant. Hendrix’s All Along the Watchtower is just this sort of cosmic confluence of two geniuses into something almost supernatural. Dylan is a brilliant poet and lyricist, Hendrix a genius guitarest, but my god that track, it’s one of my all-time favorites. It just does something. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like, Hendrix captured the soul of that song in a way that Dylan only half-captured it in his own song, and somehow expressed it to the fullest extent that you knew Dylan had wanted to.

He actually said it was like watching your girlfriend fuck someone else, then realising that she isn’t your girlfriend anymore. In the Jamie Oleksiak Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the Seattle Kraken T-Shirt also I will do this sense that he felt the song now belonged to Johnny and he fully came to terms with that. am i the only person who prefers/first heard the NiN one? the cash version was incredible of course but to me theres just something special about the NiN version NiN version is about a person losing his friends and families because of drug and alcohol addiction, Cash version is about an old man losing his friends and families and he is the only one surviving from those he knew well and loved. Both are different kinds of hurt and pain, and one would resonate more on the version that is more relatable to them.
