I read the Jalen Green American professional basketball player for Houston Rockets T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this entire article but I’m having a hard time conceptualizing what exactly happened here. When I think “bury-your-sibling-in-beach sand” I envision a shallow trench that one lays down in and gets covered over. I can’t quite grasp how two small children could dig a pit which, once it collapses, can’t be excavated by a group of several fully grown men digging frantically. sand is unstable so they either dig too deep and the sides cave in, or the try to dig a tunnel and it collapses. and its very heavy so when it collapses on you it pushes the air out of your lungs and you cant breathe. unles they get you out pretty much right away this can happen Happened to my friend years ago when we we were in 4th grade and he died as well. No one could get him out in time. Here is a good video showcasing how malleable sand is. They dug a narrow shallow trench and within a few hours it basically turns into a river

Edit because I was blocked from replying. As I said, the Jalen Green American professional basketball player for Houston Rockets T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this second URL is just to show how malleable sand is. I didn’t say they dug a hole, I said they dug a narrow shallow trench. Read it was 5-6 feet deep and I was like no fn way. It takes hours for a crew of men with tools to burry a casket that deep and soil is a lot more stable. Now if the hole was in a dune and horizontal, well then they had some shitty parents/guardians. It happened to a fully grown man in Australia less than 6 months ago. He was surrounded by people and they struggled to get him out. Between the damage done by suffocation/crushing and the damage done to him trying to extract him, he died the next day. Florida man here spent the last 40 years 10 minutes from Clearwater beach, and I am familiar with the fort Lauderdale beach where this happened. I will explain for you. The wet sand is able to hold together, and the sides of the hole can be dug straight down. Often, when you dig a hole at the beach, the sand dug from the hole is piled around the edges of the hole, making a sand castle. Depending on how deep the ground water is, it limits the depth of the hole before it gets water from the bottom, washing out the bottom of the hole, causing the walls to collapse. Here’s how it can get bad. 2 kids, low tide , later in the day… kids been digging for hours and stacking the sand around the hole. Now the hole is 3′ deep but has 2′ of sand piled around the lip. Tide comes in washing out the bottom of the hole. Kids are playing in the puddle at the bottom of the hole. Suddenly, the walls collapse and dump hundreds of pounds of wet sand into the hole, and it instantly goes from fun to fatal.
