I’d rather see it at the self checkout than have to say “no thank you” to a human and get that judgemental/irritated look 20% of the time. I cant ever figure out if they are judging me for not donating, or if some shithead manager is trying to make them hit some kind of quota for donations.

The only time i say “uh…. Sure” is when they ask for firefighters, policemen, EMTs and animals”. I don’t help any of the rest Once at a checkout line the woman asked me to donate to whatever the thing was. I politely said “no not right now thanks” and she took the bag of my stuff and literally threw it to the end of the collection area and rolled her eyes at me. I was so shook by it I shot out a rage tweet and tagged the store. Something like “just because I can’t donate to your thing does not give your people the go ahead to throw my shit” or something like that. The store hit me back within the hour and had a manager contact me asking for details. Like I understand they have the “whoever can get the most donations wins the gift card” or whatever but it is just so cringe. “Do you want to pay for us to operate a charity that we use primarily as a way to avoid paying taxes. dont worry, you’re donation will go directly to the charity…that we own…”
