Love Kelsea Ballerini for being an ally in the It’s Not Hoarding If It’s Books Retro T-Shirt But I will love this country music scene ? also that her friend group is a ton of queer women lol It’s so weird (not really) that the vast majority of women who are actually performing stars in the country music scene are amazing allies, but the women who are only famous for being the wives of male stars are the ones who keep vomiting hate. It makes sense that traditional wives without their own identities and careers are more conservative. They indirectly benefit from a straight, white, patriarchy indirectly. Lmaoooo I feel like it was an intentional choice so when bigots inevitably call the performance inappropriate she can be like “literally where” I love seeing all these country stars support the community – girls like Kelsea, Kacey and Maren, Shania too obvi. Being an ally obviously doesn’t deserve a trophy but it’s still so cool to see all their support?, especially since it’s a sure fire way to get drug through the mud in their scene. This was honestly so fucking amazing. Bringing out four queens for a country music show held in Texas during times like this, that takes nerve and Kelsea 100% knew the hate she’d get for this but did it anyways ??? While I think she’s busy in the local scene, I don’t often hear Kennedy’s name on bigger stages so I’m glad she’s getting her proper airtime! Kennedy is the only one of the bunch that makes sense for the CMA, and we already know she can give an award show level performance.

Dang it! I randomly put the It’s Not Hoarding If It’s Books Retro T-Shirt But I will love this CMT Awards on because I couldn’t find anything else to watch, and after watching a few too many men in the audience straight up frowning during female/POC artist performances and presentations, I put on something else lol… Was this early in the show and I missed it, or later in the show and I should’ve stuck it out? Edit: this comment has nothing to do with the artist herself. That’s why I specifically said camera operator. I don’t think she’s doing anything to hide the girls or diminish them. I like the statement she is making and I’m grateful, like many other lgbt people, to see representation on a country awards show stage. If you perceived it that way, I guess you’re right in that sense as it gave you that impression. From my POV, I don’t have anything else to compare it to. I just think Kelsea is the star here and the camera needs to be on her 90% of the time. I think it’s clear she wasn’t hiding the queens away. Manila was right next to her as they walked down the runway. The queens walked around her in a circle. She made eye contact with all of them. They were all taller than her and all had vibrant colors on. I didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics or how the queens exactly fit into the narrative beyond that Kelsea’s approach seemed to be positive and happy with some self-empowerment, self-confidence celebration vibe and the queens were actually the perfect complement to that.
