That’s been my hope as the Into the forest I go To lose my mind and find my soul horse shirt Apart from…,I will love this giant auto makers catch up in EV production. Tesla is still and has been the premier EV, but really because they’re first to offer a long range, powerful, luxury EV. But once the giants catch up I imagine they will challenge Tesla in their deficient areas you described, especially if or when the tech and materials become more available and cheaper. It’s gonna take a little while to overcome the cultural notion that EV = Tesla, and to my original point, I think another manufacturer could do so quicker with a unique design. Interesting. So they’re challenging in performance/quality, that’s cool. But public sentiment isn’t always in line with consumer reports and performance ratings. IMO the EV space to the general public is still Tesla first and then the others. It hasn’t. They can say they’ve “caught up” when the electric Mustang and the Ioniq 5 are more commonly seen on the roads than the Teslas; not before. My part of the country has a ton of electric vehicles, and like 95% of them are Teslas, and the other 5% are the Nissan Leaf. You could ban Tesla sales in my county today and it would still take the better part of a decade for other EVs to outnumber them on the roads.

More to the Into the forest I go To lose my mind and find my soul horse shirt Apart from…,I will love this point, the giants spent most of the last twenty years laughing derisively at the very idea of selling EVs at all; I’m not going to trust a product from a company that has repeatedly demonstrated that it doesn’t understand why people might want that product. The Leaf has been on sale for 12 years; the Tesla Model S for ten. So… it makes sense that you see a lot of them because they’ve been on sale for a long time and for a while they were the only choices. And the Mustang and Ioniq 5 certainly aren’t seen more commonly on the roads here. You see more Teslas because they’ve been on sale for much longer. My point is that if you were shopping for a new EV today, the Tesla has a crowded field of competitors that are as good or better.
