Of course it depends on the private sector job and some suck, but I’ve had better retirement, healthcare and transportation reimbursement in private sector. The leave is also pretty bad compared to private sector. Really I think job stability is the biggest and some positions have better work/life balance. My health insurance isn’t better than it was with my private job, but not getting fired for nothing if you’re off probation and having separate personal and sick banks that also accrue separately are incredibly nice. Getting 80 hours a year for three years to use for either vacation or to be sick was annoying. That being said once I get my tenure relatively soon I’d be open to looking elsewhere to see if they can be beat. I don’t feel the golden handcuffs yet.

Yeah, I’ve been extremely lucky with the I’m Not Sick I’m Just Goth AF Moontan Gothic T-Shirt and I love this health insurance. At least a couple places I haven’t had to pay premiums even with $0 deductible. I prefer the combined pool cause I never use sick leave, but I always had 4-5 weeks for that. 2 weeks for combined is terrible. Not sure why you got downvoted. Having separate annual and sick time is antiquated and usually leaves you with a pile of pointless sick time you can’t use (considering you’re not supposed to use it as annual leave generally and defraud the government). For permanent federal positions unused sick leave gets added to your total time in service when you retire so it acts as a multiplier for your pension. So it is definitely not unused or wasted. Lol i’ve never heard leave is better in the private sector, ever. You may have a good private sector job, but that is absolutely not the norm and thats a fact.
