The reason their movies still sells is because of their fans, very loyal fans. I haven’t seen WandaVision so I’ll be lost. Too bad the movie doesn’t work on its own, as all good ones do. Damn. And I really like Doctor Strange too. Pass. “the film is enough fun to make one wish for a portal to a variant universe in which Marvel movies spent more time exploiting their own strengths and less time trying to make you want more Marvel movies.” I love this. It was just a really messy film, with lots of fan servicey moments which are really awkward and cringe. (I thought the nwh ones were really good for reference) Because you’re not looking at the actual scores people are giving it. A 3/5 on RT counts as positive, that equals a 6/10 which is about what it’s getting on Metacritic. That’s not it’s score, that’s the amount of fresh reviews which can even include 3/5. The 62% on Metacritic or 6.7 average on RT is what you should actually be looking at and both of those are very middling. An 84% on RT could mean anything from an average of 5.2 to an average of 9.3. In this case it means a 6.7, which is pretty middling. All Marvel movies are 7’s. Decent enough but not great. They nailed the formula and this seems to be yet another extension of it.

“With Doctor Strange in the I’m not clumsy just the floor hates me the wall gets in my way shirt Apart from…,I will love this Multiverse of Madness, the soul-deadening bloat of these films becomes ever clearer, mostly because you can see a great, inventive filmmaker trying, and failing, to style his way out of it.” Well unfortunately Metacritic is consistently more accurate than the other site, which curates its critics based on irrelevant criteria. Which is a damn shame. I’m still gonna watch it, though. Sure. If it was straight up a negatively-reviewed movie, like a DC movie or a Jared Leto movie for example, I’d give it a miss. But it’s also not as well-liked as the first Doctor Strange movie. I totally get that—Sam Raimi isn’t an instant win ingredient or anything. It’s just disappointing that this isn’t doing anything to dispel the notion that Marvel may have lost its touch. After all, you don’t have an almost 100% repertoire of well-liked movies by accident, just as you don’t have an almost 100% disliked repertoire (DC) accidentally—there are reasons it happens. The people in charge making the right or the wrong decisions, whatever.
