Just like my grandma’s mental health had an impact on my mother’s, her mental health influenced mine. A traumatized woman who bounces between desperate people-pleasing and defensive aggression, unwilling to seek therapy or help, raised me. She raised a kid who cycles through angry self isolation, suicidal depression, and crippling anxiety. She raised a kid without any concept of how to handle emotions or conflict, a kid who flinches at raised voices just like she does, and a kid who has been sexually harassed and abused because I was too anxious to say no or stand up for myself. As much as I would want a child, I wouldn’t wish a lifetime of mental health problems upon my worst enemy, let alone my own child. I don’t even factor in whether I’d be able to psychologically handle the pressure and responsibility of having a kid.

How fucked some people are + money.
