nearly everyone who finds another job in another country is an exception to this. we are here from being talented. Haha, yep. I haven’t really had that many different jobs, but I’ve NEVER gotten a job by applying blind. I’ve known somebody every single time. However, I did get that history degree from Texas A&M and that big fucking ring has gotten me every job since my junior year of college. Usually it’s both. Our world is big and connected enough where, with few exceptions, there are more than enough people qualified. The qualified person that gets hired is the one that “knows a guy”. Even if you’re qualified, sometimes you need someone to open the door for you. Especially in this day of online applications. I’ve gotten 2/3 after after graduation jobs because of classmates or former co-workers. Only my second job out of school was on my own. Eh, I disagree, as someone who gets jobs fairly easily and I don’t really know anybody. And just to qualify what I mean by getting jobs fairly easily, I usually get 1 interview per 2 resumes I send out, and usually get 1 job offer for every 2 interviews I do. But everything I say should be only taken for my field, computer programming, as I’m sure other fields might have different cultures.

You’ll rarely find people who don’t know how to do a job that got it just because they knew a person. There is usually a bare minimum of basic supposed competency required to get a job. I’ve seen a few exceptions, but they’ve been rare. This probably has a lot to how interviewing is done. When you interview people you’ve got to interview a bunch of idiots who can’t even spell the job title. So people get written off very quickly for kind of small things. But if someone has a personal recommendation they’ll usually get a lot more consideration. I’ve never known anyone who had a personal recommendation that didn’t at least get an interview. And if you’ve got someone vouching for you, you probably get a lot more lead way than a random person as well.
