I got my first job in the semiconductor industry because my ex-FIL (with whom I still maintain a professional relationship) also works in the semiconductor industry and pulled some strings. I straight up got poached and hired to my current position before having an interview or background check. Their company IT sent me a laptop, monitors, a bunch of dongles and shit. My old manager was at a new/better company in the same industry, and basically just told his boss to hire me when an opening popped up.
