If mediation is a fat camp, then mind is an obese brat. Yes, he’s going to throw tantrums. You just need to have some empathy and compassion for that kid. Start slow. I love Vivekananda. In 2006, I received meditation instructions though the I Love Quilting Sunflower shirt and by the same token and Ramakrishna Vedanta Society. Ramakrishna was Vivekananda’s Guru. The instructions were very helpful, and i still meditate the way I was taught, then. I’ve read here in this sub that people have used Youtube videos, etc. to learn meditation with varying degrees of success. For me, learning from a Swami who has been a renunciate for their whole life (the one I learned from had been a one for 70 years, and had meditated daily that whole time), is best. There is no substitute for that level of experience.

Consider yourself lucky. Not many are graced with a genuine guru. But that shouldn’t deter anyone from practicing mediation. I agree. I also want to add, though, that there are Vedanta centers around the I Love Quilting Sunflower shirt and by the same token and whole world. Going to the centers, meeting the monks, etc. and receiving meditation instruction, is all free of cost. I think it’s helpful if people are aware of that. Decades of experience, meeting “named” gurus, and all that is just an ego pleasing humble brag for this person. Exactly. Most of what you need is through experience, it can help to hear others perspectives but the only way is what is unique to you. Which is why some meditation techniques work for someone, but not others. No doubt I could learn something, but focusing on the breath and slowly breathing definitely does something to my body and mind. A sage is someone who has let go of everything to see the nature of the universe. Now they can help others see from that perspective. Thank you for your sacrifice , sages! iamafoolI’d take a big person over a smelly person, nothing is worse than someone who smells like ass and you’re trapped…. Total violation of the senses I once sat next to a man who smelled terrible – like a zoo animal. He was wearing a suit and tie and was visibly nervous and had sweat dripping down his face. The only item he was carrying was a Bible that he kept occasionally looking at during the 4-5 hour flight.
