The point of the I Know I Swear A Lot Am Very Sorry Be Good Old Man Coffee shirt Furthermore, I will do this story is most higher ups don’t care. They’re hoping it works out and they can drag you along for a while and maybe eventually give you a promotion, but if not it just buys them time to find a real replacement. Even if you get the promotion they promised, they will lowball you on the offer and say they can’t pay market value due to you having no experience blah blah. Not every company is the same, but unless you really trust these people I’d be very cautious about this opportunity and really push to have a timeline, raise, KPIs they want you to hit, etc in writing before you ever accept anything. I worked with somebody put in a similar situation, who was then expected to train their new boss in the job they had been doing for 6 months

Put a time limit on it. 3 months is a number that has worked every time for me in the I Know I Swear A Lot Am Very Sorry Be Good Old Man Coffee shirt Furthermore, I will do this past. Be prepared t o walk if they don’t honor the deal. It is the best way to ensure that they will. Ask for a 6 month (or whatever you feel is fair) probationary period in writing. It puts a date on how long you have to “grow into it” and how long they can train you without a job change. Document everything! Set a firm deadline for the title & pay change. Maybe set a mid-point evaluation to discuss any issues you or they may have. Hard pass. They are asking you to do more work without getting compensated. Newsflash: they will NEVER be comfortable. They are rushing this hoping they can walk all over you. I’m so sorry. I don’t see how this is good for you in any way. Start updating your resume NOW.
