Tinder already has like 3 or 4 paid modes at different price points, with different features. So whether someone wants to pay 20, 30, or 50 a month, they capture that consumer just at a different level. This appears they are now adding a much more expensive feature on top of that. The same feature that’s $5 for an 18 year old in Thailand could be $80 for a 35 year old in San Fran. You suddenly get a lot of likes but no matches, ad pops up with a “sale” for gold. Why don’t you check them out! You buy that and the amount of likes stagnates (and a lot of those you got are bots and/or on the other side of the globe). How about buying a boost or rank up an even more expensive tier so you get priority likes to increase your chances?

In the I go bowling because i like it not because goof at it T-Shirt but in fact I love this end, the conflicting part is that those apps primarily exist to make money and they do not make any money when they match two people. They make money when they can prey on lonely people by showing them a number of potential chances to stop being lonely. You can get lucky there and actually meet someone nice but I guess you do that despite of what tinders tries to do not because of it. I was fortunate that I joined Tinder after a pretty messy divorce and other than a couple of weirdos my experience was pretty good and I met my girlfriend about 3 months in after “super-liking” her. I was her first match. Now together almost 3 years with a dog and our own house. That said I felt like Tinder was consistently trying to rinse me and found it particularly galling that they wanted to charge me double what a friend of mine was paying for their subscription. If I hadn’t met my other half I’m not sure my patience would have lasted much longer. yeah no kidding, they finally get that 1% man that has options, that is only looking for play things for his weekend, because hes bored.
