Centrism does absolutely nothing in that regard. It’s a great way to manifest attitudes but a very poor way to seek explanations.

Please… don’t invade France… you can keep Poland? Wingnuts don’t like to face the prospect that normal people don’t have extremist beliefs, so they lash out. People are tribal and want to be part of in-groups, as well as hated enemy out-groups. If you look at any of the centrist reddits and talk to people claiming to be centrist, you quickly find they are nearly Right wing but have maybe 1-2 left leaning views such as cut the military by like 10 dollars. It’s a farce. I used to think you could straddle the fence but you really cannot since politics have gotten to be so damn extreme. I support abortion, while also feeling we should cut the defense budget since it’s private companies getting most of it. Problem is, If I vote this way, I risk a Democrat losing to some right wing nut job hell bent on banning abortion, women’s rights, enforcing Christianity, while cutting Medicaid for single parents, and hating gay people. Ffs. Because most people who identify as centrists have a hodgepodge of idiotic, incoherent policy preferences coupled with a false view that they see through the two-party matrix the rest of us are trapped in. I would rather listen to a partisan hack than an insufferable ‘both sides’ clown any day.
