As a centrist, what I see is there is a perception of being a fence sitter. Someone who doesn’t want to give an opinion for the I get my attitude from my freakin’ awesome Dad born in November shirt What’s more,I will buy this sake of not offending anyone. Just generally a flácid kind of a choice. That said, in American politics I think it’s perfectly reasonable to hold many left positions as well as many Right positions concurrently. This is what I would call Centrism They fear intelligent people who can think for themselves and make up they’re own minds without being told what to believe. It’s not bad. It’s good. It’s what we should all aim for. The problem is, no political party occupies this central zone. In the US you pick from one of two choices – left or right. In Canada we theoretically have a centrist party (Liberals) but they have been taken over by the far left. Meanwhile we are supposed to have a fiscally conservative socially liberal party (progressive conservatives) but they have gone hard right. If you’re in the US, there are literally no “far left” options to elect. They are, given a world scope, exactly centrist. Biden is right of center.

This is why “centrism” is looked down on. If you’re an American who yearns for “centrism”, most people can recognize that you already have that. If you’re an American who wants something between centrism and fat right, that is still, in a zoomed out world view, quite conservative.
