American professional culture is also characterized by chronic overwork and little-to-no actual time off compared to Europe. Imagine going on vacation for more than a week…crazy. That’s often exaggerated. There’s no “mandatory” leave, but your average midcareer professional gets like 10-12 holidays, and 3-6 weeks of vacation/sick per year. Working days over 8 hours are definitely a thing though. I mean I didn’t just calculate it in a vacuum I actually looked at my bank account. They can borrow against that wealth to fund their lifestyle. They can write off things like corporate jets as business expenses.
