Tinder shows you the number of hidden likes you have and will use this to try and make you pay for premium again. I was amazed, and hurt when I saw this. Personal side bar: the lack of matches I was getting was hurting my self esteem, but having not changed my profile and seeing the high number of likes I was given once my subscription ended showed the problem wasn’t totally me, a lot of it was just my exposure based on the rules of the algorithm. The control was my profile, the change was the algorithm on my account given I had gone from paying to a free user again.

I tried a second month (because who could resist not seeing all of those hidden likes) and when it expired a second time, I did not see this boost again. You have to imagine Tinder is changing this so I wouldn’t bank on it. It was more proof that boosts are extremely powerful. Start a new account. New accounts receive initial boosts and you can wash away your sins of blind swiping of 100s of strangers in the past. Swipe the “right” way so you aren’t pushed down the algorithm rating. Accept the reality that paying for boosts will improve your chances. Tinder when it first launched was more pure but those rules have changed unfortunately. I think they should be forced to make your score visible in your profile settings. With something as sensitive as self-perception of your desirability it has to potential to be really damaging.
