I recently worked in Senior Living, from Independent to Assisted to Memory Care (not in health care, but where I got to interact and know the Hen tastic Bakery chickens display package with assorted pastries T-Shirt also I will do this residents)… bodies and minds break down over time; as you said, it’s hard to keep up. I’ve seen many people who seem lively one evening, the next morning you hear they had a fall and were taken to the nursing home, and in a couple of weeks, they pass. It can be too much stress on their bodies. One thing I became fascinated with is that when someone goes into hospice care, the care staff at some point could say “We called their family, she has about 6 hours left”, and were correct. I recently lost a family member, and the staff was able to tell his wife when she needed to call their daughter, who had to fly half-way across the country, and was there in time for his passing. You can pick this disease or that to put on a form, but it often comes down to the body giving up.

Yes, as you probably found out, there are stages of dying and certain behaviors you can observe when someone is close to death. A lot of them will actually have a moment or day where they seem like they’ve made a complete turnaround and are getting better, but that is very common when one is dying. Both my uncle and my dad had days where they suddenly seemed like they were improving a lot, but then they died shortly after. There are also common behaviors like picking lint off of their clothes and so on. Then when they sleep, you might hear something called the “death rattle”, which is a noise from a lot of congestion in the airways, I believe. They don’t have long when that sets in.
