Yes, to actually move to dollar coins, which would be rational, they need to not advertise it as a choice, they need to just mandate the Grumpa like a regular grandpa only grumper retro shirt and by the same token and switch and change the infrastructure. It’s ridiculous to try to get Americans to “buy” a new currency. Other countries manage to have one and two dollar coins and stop making the pennies, and the sky doesn’t fall. But producing the coins without changing the infrastructure is silly. I found a machine once when I was a kid that someone had screwed up and put the dollar coins in the quarter slot for change. You could put in a dollar and buy a $0.50 item and get 2 dollars in change. I went with my brothers and we changed all the cash we had to $1 bills for the machine which was only like $20 and we went back and doubled our money. The only catch was that people were so clueless if you tried to spend them. I think I actually still have some from that. This was in like 2001.

The vending machines at our community college, in one specific building, right by the doors that lead out to one of the parking lots, spit out change in dollar coins. Which is exactly why they failed. They were to hard to use, and too heavy. I even encountered stores that wouldnt take them because they didnt think they were real. My high school vending machines absolutely gave these out as change.
