I agree for like half past, but I think that “quarter after” is less ambiguous than 10:15, as the Grinchmas and Co Est 1957 shirt Besides,I will do this latter often sounds the same as 10:50 Always felt this way. Personally I like to know the exact time if I’m interested. Asking someone else the time is not really something in my world since I got my first phone back in 2006. So if they have a scheduled break at half past 1, keep them until 1:50, that’s half, right? I’m sure they knew what they were doing. Honestly, it’s a quick mind fuck if you’re not really thinking. The word “quarter” is first associated with an actual quarter, so your brain could grab onto that first. But also, just say the fucking time lol. 10 til noon, 5 past 12, a quarter after 1, etc. that’s mildly infuriating to me. You’re just taking a longer route to say the actual time. Saying a quarter after 10 leaves no room for interpretation either…but apparently some people just reversed course on common sense these days? Then again I’m one of those weirdos that prefer using the 24hr time format over 12hr time format and saying the time directly instead. I’m 26 and was never taught about roman numerals. To be fair, this has literally never been a problem in my life because I don’t live in Rome.

Is this 14-18 yo range college students or 18+ college? Apparently your college students are idiots either way, but I guess the Grinchmas and Co Est 1957 shirt Besides,I will do this younger ones might at least have the excuse of never having used an analog clock. My 14 and 17 year olds learned analog clocks in early elementary school. It’s still being taught and analog clocks are still everywhere. I can read analog just fine, but I can’t understand time jargon. It’s easier and faster to say ten fifteen, rather than quarter past ten I just saw an article where they were taking analog clocks out of schools because the students couldn’t read them. Snopes disproved this, some schools (in the UK) are replacing analog with digital to help kids with learning disabilities have an easier time estimating how much time is left on exams. It has nothing to do with kids not knowing how a clock works. You’ve just proven that you think it’s dumb because you don’t understand it. 10:15 isn’t a “quarter ’til” it’s a “quarter after.” A “quarter ’til” would be 10:45. Yes, obviously. I was referring to it being in the 10 o’clock hour and someone says to come back at a “quarter ’til.” My apologies for not making that clear. I’m someone extremely used to using “quarter after” “quarter ’til” “half past” and even “10 ’til.” It’s strange to me that it’s confusing to anyone. Cursive is obsolete but in fact the kids who aren’t learning it are not learning the fine motor skills they need, so it’s still worth teaching. We are literally going to wind up with a generation that has no one who could possibly become a surgeon (or repair the robots who will have to do the surgery because this generation will be incapable). One might also talk about learning perseverance and that sort of thing too…but that would be too crazy.
