Only solace I take is that this was in 2002 and now 20y later as a 37y old I can still remember, so I must have managed to escape with only minimal head injury. Have a large bottle of water with you. Have a pack or tissues for potential shitting as public toilets are horrific. Took my son to my first concert in years. Great venue, great opening act, main act was… Ok, but it was the drunk 6’5″ guy standing in front of me, and the teenager and his awkward girlfriend obsessively clapping off beat as hard as possible that made me realize I prefer my music as more of a solo experience. The first concert/gig I ever went to was Dragonforce. I wasn’t a fan but my friend had an extra ticket so I thought why not. The support band were terrible and played for what felt like an eternity, my legs were tired, and I was bored out my mind, felt like I was being tortured, forced to stand in a tight crowd and just stare at something that I wasn’t interested in. Finally Dragonforce came out but I was already ready to go home. After about 30 minutes my legs aching even more and I was just feeling really uncomfortable. Suddenly I started to get pins and needles in my whole body and my eyesight went all blurry, I turned to my friend who at this point I couldn’t even see and said “I can’t see”, he laughed and wondered what the fuck I was talking about. The next thing I know I wake up and I’m being dragged across the floor through the crowd towards the back door. I regained consciousness, sat down and drank some water. I remember being happy that I had passed out because I got to take a break from the shit show. Eventually I came around, had a beer and managed watched the rest of the show.

Moral of the German Shepherd dog my therapist has a wet nose classic shirt in addition I really love this story, don’t go to a concert/gig if you have no interest in what the band is playing, it’s tiring and torturous. Hate to say it but I love bringing a portable charger to concerts! My phone dies quick and it’s always best to have your phone; Uber, pictures, ect. Be aware of your surroundings. I was next to a mosh pit and got my nose broken because of the pit. But I got an autographed shirt from Mushroom Head from it. HYDRATION! Drink plenty of water before had, if you are on the floor you will get hot and sweat a lot and it will be cramped. My first couple of gigs a few people passed out and were crowed surfed over the barrier. Ear protection, wearing ear plugs won’t stop you hearing and enjoying it, but will save your ears, especially if it becomes regular. Without your ears will be to ringing after and feel like they have been stuffed with cotton wool. only that you are super badass to finally giving it a go!!!! trying new things the older we get is hard so props. but yea stay hydrated! and solo dates are the best once you realize the freedoms that come with solo adventures (: I wear a hoodie. It’s always hot inside the concert, so I take it off and wrap it around my waist. I adjust the hoodie so it covers my front pocket with my wallet and phone. Layer of protection. Ends up kinda looking like an apron but whatever
