Because people don’t want to be nickled and dimed to engage in entertainment. It’s fine for free to play games but now we are seeing battle passes and monetization of in game currency in full price games. Devs remove portions of games that are ready at launch and often is included in the full game and they unlock it when you purchase “DLC”. DLC that is already in the software. It’s anti-consumer and greedy. I didn’t invent this, I just design it. I understand what your saying but at the same time video games are the most profitable they have been. I get that people online are very loud against it, but you have to realize that the majority of people who play games on their phones, or more casually, do not have issues with this. They also are the vast majority of people who play games. People being ok with being screwed won’t sway my opinion. It’s shady and predatory. Not to mention the bad habits it introduces to children. Profit motive won’t sway me either. Greed is a terrible vice. Games were profitable before all this nonsense. I really don’t care about making rich people richer.

I mean, I don’t really view myself as the bad guy persay but I also recognize that I’m not doing any grand public services. That’s not my mentality about it I’m just raising the point. I love gacha games personally and I love the mechanics of them as a player so I don’t feel bad about designing them in the slightest.
