Get an understanding of ‘release through tension’; it’s what the Shaolin monks practise. A traditional club will (hopefully) have held onto some traditional philosophies that would be rooted in the idea of ‘release through tension’. clench your fists for 4 minutes as if you were holding a tiny diamond that you feared to drop. Keep your fists clenched, and notice how it makes you feel. Feel the tension in the wrists, the knuckles, the fingers, up the forearms, the elbow, the bicep, the shoulder, and anywhere else you feel the tension in your body. If emotions arise before 4 minutes are up and it’s making you feel uncomfortable; open your fists and release the tension; you’re in control.

If you get all the First Night In M72 Arlington Metallica World Tour Live In Cinemas Shirt (watermarked) and I love this way to 4 mins, open your fists and release the tension. You can put some music on or a short video in the background, thats ok. It can help with the timing. Find a video or song you like that lasts about 4 mins, and practise until the end. Avoid clenching your fist so much that it hurts your hand; if it starts to hurt, loosen the tightness; you have control. Once you open your fist, let your hands rest in your lap and this time notice the feeling of release in your wrists, fingers, hands, and follow that feeling of release up the arms, and continue to spread around your body. Allow the release to occur, go with it, let your body relax as the tension releases. The principle of all of this is to find healthy, controlled ways, of releasing tension and controlling emotions in a ‘practise area’. Enabling you to react better when tension arises when you are not expecting it.
