I keep hearing this come up, and when I listen to the Farm Barnyard Theme Pig Cow Horse 4th Birthday 4 Yrs Old T-Shirt and I will buy this song I don’t hear anything that is overtly gay. Just hanging out with the boys and having a good time which are things straight people do too. Basically I bring this up to ask is there something else I’m missing here? Is the writhed of the song still closeted or something? I’m not sure that this is in any way intentional, but on the other hand for a band as consciously camp as the Village People, I’m a little suspicious of the notion that the songwriter wasn’t aware of this. The writer of the song said it was about hanging out with his friends and for everyone. He has no problem with it being used as a gay anthem or anyone’s anthem though.

Interesting memory – when I was growing up, I never even gave pause to think about these guys being gay. And as I thought more about it, I started to realize I was the Farm Barnyard Theme Pig Cow Horse 4th Birthday 4 Yrs Old T-Shirt and I will buy this same way with Elton John and Freddie Mercury…I don’t chalk my thought process to being young and myopic, but more the fact I liked the music so much, I really didn’t think about much else. Iirc the Navy really didn’t like the stereotype of men in the Navy being gay. When they worked with the Village People they somehow didn’t realize that Village People are some of the most gay people out there until it was too late.
