The issue is many companies in defense aren’t hiring right now. Budgets are tight or being cut. The big con for me is that there are really great projects, and really boring projects. I got extremely lucky and got put on a good one, but I had a friend who decided to leave for another team, and he was bored out of his mind with the switch. I will say, though, there’s some mobility. Generally you stay on a project for a year or so, but after that, it’s not too hard to move. Another con is that, depending on the clearance level of the work you do, you may have to spend all day in a windowless room with no phone. I don’t mind this, since I’m an easily distracted person, but I know a lot of people who hate working in a SCIF.

Have u looked at some of the intelligence agencies? Not all of them are “DoD” but may work with them in some form or fashion.
