Sounds like a boss is being cheap trying to not hire an experienced dev believing a fresh grad can build a maintainable/robust enterprise software. If you take it keep looking as this will end in you being fired most likely lol They definitely give you the Enjoy Every Moment Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this freedom to mess up everything. Companies should never be hiring someone without the experience to handle a codebase on their own, but they unfortunately do to try and save money. But if you pay in peanuts, you get monkeys, so they deserve it. As far as whether or not you should do it goes, only do so if you plan it as a short-term stepping stone. Probably no more than 6 months there before you start looking for a new job if you plan to ever grow as a developer. And the only reason for this is if you don’t have the luxury of waiting around for better opportunities. Absolutely not. I would never join a new career and let my first position be one where in the only employee for the “team”.

If you take it as a lead/Senior-ish role and you have a few years experience, it may turn out to be a great decision, since you hopefully have the Enjoy Every Moment Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this skills to manage a solution from start to finish, and know how to talk to project managers and get buy-in any stakeholders at this point. In theory it sounds good, but you aren’t ready to lead a project yet. At least, not someone else’s project that they are paying you to do. As a new grad, no. But as an experienced dev I might consider it for the sake of fun and being able to build something from the ground up. But I’d have to be compensated very well and also not be under pressure. Being the only person working on it gives you no one else to blame so I don’t want people hanging over my shoulder and demanding too much. I got hired for tech support. We needed a ticket system and I had taught myself enough PHP to build a website. I told them I could build one, and from them on I was a developer for them. It was almost a year before they hired another developer, and he barely knew more than I did. Every opportunity is a learning opportunity. I say jump at it. Remember, in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.
