I’ve heard 5 dollars per 1000 views is the Emuel Ogbah Nigerian professional American football linebacker Miami Bold T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this current range, and so you would need something like a half million views per month to make 2000 dollars. And I could do some basic math on that—if you are selling hats and t-shirts and making say $10 profit on each, how many do you have to sell a month to make a considerable amount of money? 200 hats a month, well, that does seem doable—but the profit might be less. So it might be 400, or 500 hats a month? How many subscribers do you have to have before you have 100s a month who like you so much they want your branding? But that is the point of my post—I am making videos that I enjoy and that at least some other people enjoy, not trying to create a parasocial personality to “sell merch”. I’ve sold a little bit of merch (with another thing I was doing, not my current YouTube channel) and $10 profit per item is probably a realistic average.

But I’d really like to make a living doing this. I’ve made a living as a writer for the past 7 years or so, and I’m getting increasingly worried about AI. Also, a freelancer, my work could dry up at anytime (AI or not). I’ve been struggling to come up with another career path I can take and YT is the only thing that seems to tick the right boxes for me. It is a long shot, but I have a little bit of hope. For myself, I don’t anticipate taking YouTube (even including sponsorships, perhaps external revenue coming from the same audience) anytime soon. My day job is in tech, and it would take either an incredibly dedicated audience or a large audience to even come close to replicating the type of money that I currently make. Maybe if I hate my job enough though, I could fall back to it.
