Ordered XM5’s last month and returned them the Easily Distracted By Cats And Books Vintage T-Shirt in addition I really love this very same day after putting them on for 5 minutes, I knew it was something I’ll definitely regret buying. Main issue was audio quality was lacklustre coming from HD598SE > Sony Wired Earphones > WF 1000XM3 > WH 1000XM5. The last two might be reversed but more or less not worth 20K+. And the noise cancellation wasn’t impressive compared to the earbuds ( XM3 ) because the pads couldn’t get a good seal. And the worst was I started sweating around the pads in a few minutes. That’s when I said fuck this shit and returned it ASAP. OP, try everything and don’t give up. Make them repair the damn thing and don’t buy expensive stuff from Sony again. It’s weird but their cheaper stuff are more value for money TBH.

But TBH Sony is not bad but these service centres are running their own schemes. As shared by one other guy here, they seem to be earning both ways; asking you to get a new replacement for ~20K from them and then they will probably repair yours if you give it to them and sell it again as used or refurbished. Best, don’t give them any excuses to deny repair. Proceed clinically. Dry the headphones out completely. Then take them for repair at another SC. Also, many electronics especially phones have liquid contact indicators. Basically a small white dot of absorbent material that turns pink / red when it becomes wet. Even if you dry it back it stays pink / red. Check if that’s there in XM5 ( find tear down videos on YouTube to see if there’s one on the XM5 ). If that’s the case and yours has detected water/moisture; these assholes might reject again. Related story, last year my 45K LG Monitor got water damaged apparently. Maid wiped it with moist cloth. But, LG guys let it slide and replaced the panel but warned me to be careful next time.
