If the E Duffy Is Milius In Rebel Moon Part 1 A Child Of Fire Shirt and I love this parent actually *needs* the money. Why charge rent, just ask your child for money? Tell them you need money. If the parent doesn’t need the money then why charge rent? Why take an advantage from your children? And for what? They’ll have your stuff when you die anyhow, might as well get it now and pay less tax for it? In your specific case, where you’d give the money back. It basically translates to “I don’t trust my children to manage their own money”. Isn’t it better to have a talk with them about how to manage their money? I’m sorry but I think it’s a horrible idea that severely undermines trust and the whole parent/child relationship. Imo the only reason to do this is if money is tight and you have a horrible relationship… and yet I see tons of well off people with a good relationship do this…. I was being charged £300 a month. In hensight, it should have been more, but at the same time, I know it wasn’t coming back to me. My suggestion would be that a good way to teach them about real world costs is to involve them. Charging them rent/keep is one thing, but reading and understanding bills, and paying for them is another. When my kids get old enough for this, my plan is 20% of any earnings, and then to encourage them to save, I will tell them that whatever they have saved by a set time (ie 25th bday, date they move out, etc) I will match it.
