My wife went on a sushi terror after she could eat it again so Friday nights we would get sushi and watch Station 19 and Greys after we put the Dusty Stromer Cement Shirt in addition I really love this kid down. And it gave us something to look forward to each week. A little “we survived another week” celebration. It really turned into a waiting game. Just trying to do as little damage to our relationship as possible while we were exhausted and sleep deprived. It grew in some regards. But not letting the petty stuff that makes you snap after not sleeping for 3days ruin what you have spent years building. For us, about the 8-12ish month mark, things kind of took a turn. And all of a sudden we realized that we didn’t basically hate each other, the eyes stopped rolling over simple requests, no more huffing and sighing and cold shoulders. There was some work at rebuilding after the dust settled. But once we rounded those corners it was easier to bring up our needs, outside of the baby, and work on them.

Advice wise, be nice to each other and yourself. (easier said than done) No one is at their best at 2am. So keep the Dusty Stromer Cement Shirt in addition I really love this arguments in the middle of the night to a minimum. It still happens though. We have a rule that nothing said between midnight and 6 AM counts. Granted, my husband and I aren’t nasty to each other like some of the awful things I read here, but we are both snippy when tired. It’s easy to feel like a bad mom or dad, and the genuine recognition of a job well done goes a long way in our house. Personally, I need specifics. Not “good job with the baby last night” but “you did a good job of trying different things and not giving up on our daughter when she was screaming.” Full disclosure my husband has never been a particularly defensive person…but I framed it as a benefit to both of us. I don’t have to nag…he doesn’t have to be nagged. We did the deck pre baby, I told him we couldn’t have kids until we figured this out because we’d been having what was essentially the same fight for years. It was a big shift for us. I had to learn to let go and trust him and he had to learn to step up and be pro active in our marriage and household. Fast forward a year, I got pregnant and he ended up researching and putting together our whole baby registry. We each did half the thank you notes. He’s taken over food shopping and meal planning, he researched and interviewed pediatricians and he took the lead on getting on daycare waitlists. We communicate about everything. It’s really improved our relationship.
