As far as hormones go, only a few are able to get hormones at young ages and this is because these are the kids that wouldn’t be alive without it. Saw anti-trans videos on r/PublicFreakout and anti-trans posts on r/TrueOffMyChest yesterday, and now I’m starting to see it here.

I thinks there’s been an exodus of right-wing trolls from twitter to Reddit. There’s been a lot of open misogyny on Reddit recently too. However some docs do top surgery for trans girls that are under 18, but to be fair cis girls under 18 get boob jobs too so that’s not a trans-exclusive thing. Hormone blockers are especially important, because going through the wrong puberty can be extremely traumatic for trans people. You need to give them right as a child is starting puberty for the best effects. They don’t have long-term side effects, and any effects can be reversed by quitting the hormone blockers if need be. Imo to take hormones (estrogen, testosterone, etc) I think you should be at least 14 before you decide to do that, because hormones do have long-term effects, although those can be reversed as well with proper medical care. After all, I took birth control at age 14 as a cis girl and those have similar hormones in them, and no one bats an eye at that because obviously it’s better to be safe than not if you’re sexually active. And obvi bottom surgeries should be held off until you’re at least 18. For top surgery I’d say 16 is fine as well but that’s just my view. But yes giving these medications at the right time is extremely important and can be life-saving medical care in many cases. Having support as a trans person drastically decreases sui rates after all.
