But that is the Domingo German New York Y Perfect Game T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this point of my post—I am making videos that I enjoy and that at least some other people enjoy, not trying to create a parasocial personality to “sell merch”. But I’d really like to make a living doing this. I’ve made a living as a writer for the past 7 years or so, and I’m getting increasingly worried about AI. Also, a freelancer, my work could dry up at anytime (AI or not). I’ve been struggling to come up with another career path I can take and YT is the only thing that seems to tick the right boxes for me. It is a long shot, but I have a little bit of hope. For myself, I don’t anticipate taking YouTube (even including sponsorships, perhaps external revenue coming from the same audience) anytime soon. My day job is in tech, and it would take either an incredibly dedicated audience or a large audience to even come close to replicating the type of money that I currently make. Maybe if I hate my job enough though, I could fall back to it.

It’s hard to give specific information here because every topic is different and every creator has a different living situation. For instance, some topics pay more than others advertising wise. It’s a lot harder to make a living as a gaming YouTuber than say, a financial help YouTuber, at least if you’re entirely reliant on ad revenue. Similarly, some audiences bring in more ad revenue than others due to how much advertisers are willing to spend trying to attract them. I’m no expert here, but I recall that wealthy older people in 1st world countries are a lot more attractive to advertisers than kids or people from poorer countries. So a hypothetical investment news channel aimed at billionaires is going to be sustainable with far less subs than one popular with kids in South America or Africa. And speaking of kids, YouTube Kids apparently pays terribly even by YouTube standards. So if your content is made for kids, god help you. You’ll probably need a huge audience to make a good living from it.
