A good example of the latter is Arizona Ice Tea company. They have sold their products for 99¢ for the last 30 years. Could they have increased their prices, maybe to keep up with inflation? Sure. But they don’t, because they don’t need to. Now look at companies like Apple, that take 30% of all revenue flowing through the Apple app store. 30% of what other people and companies produce, gets syphoned off. Apple controls a large part of the mobile market. In your words, they desire to make more money. Homework: should we let them continue this practice? Why or why not?

Economy’s work best when money flows. Capitalism seeks to take, not to give. It’s why wages and salaries stagnate. It’s why recessions exist. When profits dip, wages dip. Why do we need profits? Stores are open then there is a marginal benefit to be open. That means the cost of being open (wages, lights, heating ect) is less than the money that make. That’s why stores aren’t often open at 3am. You’d have to pay workers more to be willing to show up at 3 and you would get few customers, so the store would lose money by being open at that time. So clever business are only open when it’s profitable. So saying stores should be open 18 hours a day, when it’s unlikely there will be a marginal benefit to being open more then 9 means stores will lose money. On top of that the shifts would probably look something like 4am-10am, 10am-4pm, 4pm-10pm. While the 10-4 shift seems sweet the other two look a little rough. And many people don’t want a part time job with shitty hours. Plus no one is going to the store at 4am
