Or don’t and just focus on yourself and your family and drop him. That’s what most people do with depressed friends tbf. As someone who has been on both sides of this, it’s also important to understand there is a point when someone who doesn’t want to change becomes an unhealthy person for you to be around. I’m not saying don’t try to help, but it’s more like one of those “be very careful you don’t drown while trying to help the Detroit Lions NFL Team Defend mascot shirt Additionally,I will love this drowning person” kind of things. It’s impossible to have a healthy relationship with someone who refuses respect your boundaries. I don’t think it’s fair to lay a guilt trip on OP for not working harder to fix this person’s life. People grow apart. People choose different paths and have different amounts of effort they’re willing to put into living their best life. This is the Detroit Lions NFL Team Defend mascot shirt Additionally,I will love this kind of friend who, if they aren’t receptive to making good choices isn’t going to add anything to your life. If OP had not ever tried to talk to their friend about their lifestyle I would agree with you, that a conversation would be a better place to start than just phasing them out. But OP has already done that step and not had success. Now they can accept that the friend isn’t wanting the same thing as them and they want to spend their time with people who do. I think that’s fair. I don’t think the sunk cost fallacy should keep people in friendships that no longer add value to their lives.
