I used to tell people all the Damn right I am a Steelers fan now and forever shirt besides I will buy this time when they’d compliment me in the shop I was working that I was only my first day (I was a manager) but it was just to be a bit silly and catch them a little off guard. omg i used to make up the silliest lies when i worked retail just to shake up the boredom. i worked in a grocery store so was always telling people that i “absolutely loved” whatever random ingredients they were buying and that i “cooked with them all the time.” would also definitely tell people i had just started when i’d been working there for ten years lol. We convinced a customer that the new plastic £5 notes all smelt – like scratch and sniff. She even gave it a little lick in case she had a blocked nose , ive not laughed that had for a while. This is a bit petty of me as it happened way back in primary school, but sometimes I think about my classmate who used to tell me that she had celebrities visiting her house; like H from Steps and the girls from Atomic Kitten. I used to be really sad because I was never invited to see these super cool pop stars.

I once got in a taxi back from work, I recognised the Damn right I am a Steelers fan now and forever shirt besides I will buy this driver he used to go out with one of my neighbours and I used to be best friends years earlier with his sister, he didn’t recognise me and started telling me how he owned a night club in Spain and owned property all over Europe, me being me I called him straight out, it was all bullshit. He nearly choked on his can of coke and tried to back track. I found out from other drivers he told them the same story’s and they had believed him. They told me other things he’d been bragging about that were a complete work of fiction. Years ago with a new team of people I was working with we were waiting in a queue and talking about relationships. I asked one guy if he had a gf and he said “nah I’m gay”, totally deadpan, because why would he say it any differently?

Fast forward months and he almost took insult when I queried how he’d gotten a new girlfriend. The guy was “joking”. Imagine someone saying they’re gay to you and then you’re like “haha lol no you’re not!” Odd behaviour. During the 6 weeks me and a couple mates went to ask if he wanted to go for a ride, he said yes and came out with us. Obviously asked why he’d left our school and he said “I wanted to learn parkour so I’m going to a school that teaches it” obviously bullshit but when I spoke to his mom later it was because of a messy divorce and moving the kids to a new school that dad didn’t know You have to try to either insert yourself into a conversation or take it over by being better/more interesting. Oh, you tripped and scraped your knee? That’s so sad for you but I fell down 4 flights of stairs and broke both my legs a while ago, the doctor said I’d never walk again, but here I am, but I’m sure your knee is so sore

I met an Irish guy one night at a bar. We chatted and drank all night. Took him home but didn’t do anything on the Damn right I am a Steelers fan now and forever shirt besides I will buy this night because I was hammered. In the morning, in the most obvious broad mackem accent, he asked me if I’d give him a hand. I didn’t. He’d literally put on an accent all night for no apparent reason This lad in secondary school tried to convince us, and stuck to it for years, that he was Greek, and he was also the youngest member ever of the Greek paramilitary but he gave it up because he wanted to finish his education. We went to his house after a few years of this and he pretended to speak Greek (definitely not close to sounding like even a half decent fake Greek) to his sister, his sister said “what the fuck are you doing?”.

On the Damn right I am a Steelers fan now and forever shirt besides I will buy this flip side, I had an ex girlfriend who would sometimes respond to my answers of basic questions like what I had for lunch, what score I got on a test at uni, basic questions about my childhood etc, with “why are you lying? What a weird thing to lie about” when I was telling the truth. It was almost always provable as well, and she’d just be like “Hmm”. I don’t know if she thought she was great at detecting lies and the fact she’d been wrong every time was a coincidence or what, but I learned being accused of lying about mundane shit when I’m not is my least favourite thing. During Fresher’s week at uni I went on the night out for my course. Met a girl who told me in a loud drunken Aussie accent that she was from Melbourne. Didn’t speak to her again until final year when we worked on a group project again and she was not, in fact, Australian. It still baffles me years later why she would drunkenly lie to me about it.
This reminds me of something I used to do. I worked in a supermarket on the Damn right I am a Steelers fan now and forever shirt besides I will buy this tills and would be absolutely bored out of my mind so I’d serve each customer in a different accent. Always cringe when I think about that. lol. Just for fun, I did the same. Spent a whole night telling geordies in Newcastle how grand the place was and talking at length about how we Irish have so much in common with northern mining towns. Then I got too drunk and forgot to keep up the accent. I am in fact Geordie myself. my sister (new zealander) used to talk in a british accent when she got drunk, lol. we also used to play a game at bars where we tried to convince other people of the most outrageous thing possible about ourselves (i.e. that we were professional models in germany, that we were distantly related to famous celebrities, etc.) i can see us daring each other to convince someone we were australian. People like to pretend they’re from different countries on nights out, it’s a thing. She was just having fun practicing her accent I bet.

Mrs Ballantyne said she needed someone to go to the school office for something (can’t remember what). I shot my hand up and she told me, “go on then”. The second I got into the corridor I realised I had no idea where the office was. I hung around for about 2 minutes then went back into the classroom and told her I’d forgotten where it was. To this day I have no idea why I said I knew where it was. Showing off, I suppose. Edit: just realised this is about other people telling you lies. Maybe Mrs Ballantyne will be along in a minute to tell the story about a lying schoolboy she encountered many years ago. She’s probably long dead, mind.
