Here in Pittsburgh, we have Rt. 28 where admittedly the Daddy kong diddy kong slap princess shirt and I will buy this speed limit is “55”, but is actually about 70+ according to drivers. My friend was driving, and going the posted speed limit and getting angry that so many people were speeding past her whole she was in the left lane. I suggested she move over to let them all by, and her response was “but it becomes a turn only lane” when we needed to go straight. The turn only lane is at least a half mile long, and wasn’t for another 2 miles, and traffic was spaced out with plenty of room. She’s not the type to be afraid of switching lanes (if you are you shouldn’t be driving, much less in a city) so I honestly think she felt like it was her right to drive where she pleased as long as she was going the speed limit regardless of the other people on the road, and that it was up to others to “suck it up and obey the law”.

Psychologically I feel like people who stay in the Daddy kong diddy kong slap princess shirt and I will buy this left lane going slower or only going the posted limit feel like they’re somehow aiding justice and bringing the world back in balance. Except cops around here don’t care, they care about you disrupting the flow of traffic because it’s not speed that causes accidents, it’s interrupted traffic flow. E.g. tunnels. People who drive in the passing lanes with cars overtaking them are like a rock in the middle of a river… doing nothing more than distrupting the natural flow of traffic and being a hazard to everyone around them. People are just dumb as a bag of rocks. I think most people, or a lot of people, simply don’t know that the left lane is for passing. Whether that’s on a 2 lane road or on major highways. I’m in the south, and I can assure you, southerners drive slow, and without any understanding of basic traffic norms. In my experience, big cities, especially the north, drivers are more aggressive which by extension enforces the left lane passing norm Because I’m already speeding and passing people. The people that have to pass me in the right lane are mostly people going 100 mph.
