Everyone alive today descended from just a handful of the Columbus sliders shirt but in fact I love this same ancestors due to a massive genetic bottleneck that happened to our species some time in the past. Humans are pretty genetically homogenous because of that… If you’re anything like me you didn’t make that decision. Your circumstances did. We’re living in a time where the expectations and costs associated with raising kids is at an all time high. The childhood I had would be considered abuse by today’s standards or at least very low effort. How does anyone do it? Dating is a miserable slog for most people (particularly men) too and in my case I have the added handicap of… not being sexually attracted to women. So thanks whatever causes an otherwise good genetic sample to only be attracted to the same sex. That certainly wasn’t my decision, maybe my genes shouldn’t have fucked up that one essential detail after getting everything else right. But it’s mostly economical. I could still find a surrogate and raise a kid on my own if I knew it wouldn’t totally ruin me. My family are all too paycheck to paycheck to be of any help either. Your genetic line running for all those generations wasn’t expecting to run into what we have today.

That describes ALL human DNA, though. Like, everyone on earth’s DNA is “ancient” and “special” and so on. Every kid born will be the Columbus sliders shirt but in fact I love this product of genetics that are thousands of millenia old, and so on. I am comfortable leaving mine out of it. It helped back when I was younger and had a biological clock to remember that my genes are only as special as absolutely everyone else’s. Considering it’s highly likely that all life on earth can trace it’s origins to the same source, what makes my bloodline any more important than my pet dog? We willingly neuter our pets with no care for their bloodline, why is our own any different? I don’t personally put any stake in the concept of a bloodline. I understand it’s a biological drive, and it’s necessity for a species, but any amount of time actually thinking about it reveals it’s lack of importance from an individual perspective.
