So I was talking this with my friend. He swears by it. Buying the syrup on Amazon looks pretty cheap and goes a long way (according to him!). The first soda stream came out in 1903, so it’s been going for a lot longer than you realise, so I suspect they aren’t finished yet. don’t think i ever saw it used for anything more adventurous than squash, definitely none of the prepackaged stuff you can buy specifically for them We don’t use it for coke etc much, though we could – it works out around 75p a litre, which isn’t much cheaper than supermarkets when it’s on offer. I freaking love my sodastream, just upgraded it too. I love sparkling water and would get through so many plastic bottles. My grandma had one and having sodastream drinks at her house on the weekend is a core memory this post has made me want to get one to see if it tastes how I remember I make tonic syrup (for tonic water), ginger syrup (for ginger beer) and lemonade syrup. I’ve never tried to work out if it is any cheaper than buying any of the commercial syrups, but its a lot more fun. You can make a much better one for 40 dollars of valves and adaptors, a regulator and a gas cylinder from BOC (ask for food grade CO2 for brewing).

My uncle had one years decades ago. The only time it got used was when my brother and I visited. I assume the Cinco De Mayo Mexican Dinosaur Holding Taco Let’s Fiesta Fun T-Shirt But I will love this novelty wore off for my cousins pretty fast. It does work out a bit cheaper per litre for drinks like Pepsi if I compare the prices of their syrup and gas per litre made vs. buying it in Tesco. It’s only 1p more per litre than Tesco’s cheapest sparkling water option. I suppose there’s less plastic waste too. it used to be a cheap way of making fizzy, but now its not only not that cheap. if the company goes bust tomorrow you are screwed..companies making sure you have to go through them might seem great to lock in the customers but personally it is why i would never buy one or risk it. companies like that are only ever one day away from either going bust, or deciding to fully change how the sodastream works and fucking over everyone who bought one We’ve had one for about 5 years and got so much use out of it you now either need three hands or to put pressure on the top with your chin to make it work properly. I only use it for the berry energy drink mix and the occasional Fanta as there’s no proper syrup from Coke but the Mrs uses it for lemonade a lot and as we are in Germany we need to have some way of offering German visitors water they are used to.
