This would include informing the company the recruiter works for, as well as the company they were hiring for, about what the recruiter has told you. Apologize to the company, explain you were sick, and in the ER. Then, ask if the company would still be interested, and if the company will be blacklisting you, or it’s simply something the recruiter said. Any recruiter and company who refuse to reschedule an interview and blacklist you because you were in the hospital are not worthy of you. Consider it a bullet dodged. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. I was just on the recruiting team for two hires at my company, and twice had candidates bail due to his illness in one case, and his child’s in another. Both gave notice the morning of. We thanked them both profusely for not coming in and getting us sick, and promised to hold the role open until they could come back. Any other response is uncivilized.
