Additionally, if this is done verbally, ask and stop talking, otherwise you are likely to negotiate with yourself “… 105 is appropriate.” Silence. Hiring managers aren’t car salespeople, and they aren’t given a blank check for job offers. HR likely provided the Braves 2023 Nl East Division Champions Atlanta Braves shirt In addition,I will do this offer or a range and the person offering doesn’t have authority to go over what is in hand. OP, provide what you feel is an acceptable rate of pay for your skills and experience in a counteroffer. Express your excitement for the role and reaffirm that you’d be a fantastic fit, but that you couldn’t justify leaving your current role for less than $X per year. Beyond that, it’s up to them to get you up to par and up to you to decide whether to take it or leave it. If you decline, do so as graciously as possible and express that you truly hope to work with them in the future. Unless you prefer scorched earth. Good luck!

I’m this exact scenario right now as the Braves 2023 Nl East Division Champions Atlanta Braves shirt In addition,I will do this hiring manager, and I assure that mine isn’t. HR has all these banding, grade, and pay rules, along with just generally being unavailable/slow to act. I’ve had several offers I’ve submitted to them and said: offer this candidate $X. They refused and offered $10k less than X, because dumb HR reasons. And that took longer than a month of back/forth to get accomplished. It’s extremely unlikely to be a negotiating tactic. It’s very common for HR and the hiring manager to be at odds about an offer to a candidate. In fact, in my experience it’s more often than not that they’re at odds. Candidate wants the best package. Hiring manager wants the candidate. HR wants the package to be consistent with market price and internal equity. Finance wants to manage budget. That’s the dynamic I am lucky to have had a hiring manager literally tell me before at a higher ed job I applied for and every institute may be different “I love everything you have on your resume, but it would be impossible to hire you for the salary you asked because they put the salary ranges on the website but the policy is we will never offer you more than mid range and you are on the higher end of my salary range.
